STRIVA headphones will connect wirelessly to the included CAP out of the box.
STRIVA Headphones can also be used in wired mode with the included 3.5mm audio to USB adapter cable.
Review the Quickstart Guide for initial product setup.
The lithium polymer battery in your device holds its charge for a very long time, but may not provide full playtime out of the box. You may want to charge them prior to use.
Connect the STRIVA Device to the included AC adapter with the included USB to mini or micro USB cable. Powered USB ports on a computer or television will also charge the STRIVA device, but it may take longer.
The LED indicator light on the headphones will pulse green while charging. The LED indicator light will turn solid green when the STRIVA Device is finished charging. The LED light indicator on the CAP will turn teal while charging and will turn green when it is ejected. To view the charging state of the CAP, plug-in the USB data cable to a PC or Mac and Eject the "KOSS STRIVA" drive (within My Computer or Finder, respectively).

STRIVA Devices connect to MyKOSS.com through a WiFi hotspot connected to the Internet. If the access point you want to use is secured, the password or passphrase is required to connect that hotspot. See the Quickstart Guide for more instructions.
You can save as many Wi-Fi hotspots as you want. Your STRIVA Device will automatically search for an hotspots it knows and can connect wherever you are in a known hotspot.
STRIVA is a true Wi-Fi Stereo Headphone. 128kbps(or greater) MP3 audio streams are transmitted wirelessly to your headphones. These audio streams can be internet radio streams or served up locally using the STRIVA CAP with any media source connected to a headphone jack.
MyKOSS.com is free for STRIVA users.
STRIVA Devices work wirelessly in three modes:
1. STRIVA CAP Mode
Play music from a STRIVA CAP that is connected to a media source such as an MP3 player, smart phone or home stereo.
The STRIVA listening device must first be powered on in CAP mode to create this local network. This is done by holding down the power button until the teal light illuminates.
The STRIVA CAP is then plugged into the desired media source. When in range of a STRIVA CAP that is connected to a media source, STRIVA Devices will be able to connect to and play media directly from that media source. STRIVA CAPs and STRIVA Headphones must be on the same user account to work together.
2. STRIVA CAP Channel Mode
Play music from media source (such as an MP3 player, smart phone or home stereo) through a STRIVA CAP, through MyKOSS.com, to a listening device.
The CAP must be plugged in and powered on before the STRIVA listening device. The CAP will then be added to your channel list on MyKOSS.com.
The STRIVA listening device is then powered on in Wi-Fi mode by depressing the power button until the blue light illuminates and you hear "Searching for Wi-Fi". By selecting the STRIVA CAP channel in MyKOSS.com, you will be able to stream media from the device that the STRIVA CAP is plugged in to.
3. WiFi Mode
Play music from MyKOSS.com. A STRIVA CAP is not required. In this mode, STRIVA Devices must be able to connect to the Internet through a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Wi-Fi hotspots are added to your MyKOSS account and copied to your STRIVA devices using MyKOSS.com.
The STRIVA listening device can be powered on in Wi-Fi mode by depressing the power button until the blue light illuminates and you hear "Searching for Wi-Fi".
New STRIVA headphones come with a STRIVA CAP for easy setup. Connect your CAP, follow the on-screen prompts and the STRIVA headphones will be added automatically.
Whenever Wi-Fi hotspots are added or edited, all STRIVA devices on your account should be synced. You will be prompted to connect a STRIVA CAP to begin sync mode. Turn off, then turn on your other devices to automatically sync Wi-Fi hotspot information. Each device will display a solid green LED indicator and turn off when the updated Wi-Fi access point information is successfully synced.
After clicking ADD+ in SETUP > Wi-Fi, the Network Scan tool appears on the right side of the pop-up dialog. In order to use this feature, you must connect a STRIVA CAP via USB to your computer. The STRIVA CAP must also be running firmware version 0.2.1 or above. If your STRIVA CAP requires a firmware update, you will be prompted to do so upon connecting it.
You may add as many networks as you want.
STRIVA Devices are able to exchange information using an automated sync mode. Wi-Fi hotspot information is the most common use for sync mode. Sync mode is indicated when the status LED flashes green + blue. Any devices powered on while in range of a device in sync mode will connect to that device. Each device will display a solid green LED indicator and turn off when sync mode has finished successfully.
Begin Wi-Fi sync mode by going to SETUP > WiFi and plugging in a STRIVA Device such as the STRIVA CAP. A white "Sync" button will appear in the yellow sync bar.
A channel is a collection of Internet streams. When you create a channel, you select music genres that you want to play in that channel, e.g. rock and alternative. Or try an eclectic mix of Chill, Jazz and Folk. You can create as many channels as you want.
As you listen, give feedback by using the thumbs up or thumbs down function on your STRIVA Headphone. MyKOSS.com will use this feedback to help select streams that better fit your music preferences.
A stream is a continuously playing music broadcast, similar to a radio station. The Internet is filled with thousands of these stations playing music from every imaginable genre.
Any SHOUTcast stream can be added to a channel. All you need is the SHOUTcast stream URL which usually ends in .pls Only MP3 Shoutcast streams are supported. To add a custom SHOUTcast stream, click the 'Add Custom Stream' tab under 'Edit Channel'.
Any media source can be played through a STRIVA CAP. Connect your computer or smart phone’s headphone jack to a STRIVA CAP to play your music wirelessly.
When an update for the Koss STRIVA PRO, Koss STRIVA TAP, and Koss STRIVA CAP is available a notification will appear on the MyKOSS news page as well as in the hardware section on MyKOSS. You will also receive an email notification informing you of the update availability as well as other update details.
All email addresses, passwords and WiFi hotspot information is securely stored and transmitted using 128bit encryption. MyKOSS does not sell or make your information available to 3rd parties.
I'm trying to add a STRIVA Device, I plug it in when MyKOSS tells me to but nothing happens!
Due to recent malware, Apple has disabled auto-execution of java applets for security in OSX. Currently this prevents the MyKOSS.com java applet from auto detecting a STRIVA Device when it is plugged in. To temporarily re-enable java applets:
STRIVA Devices charge via USB. Your STRIVA Device comes with an AC wall adapter which allows charging without a computer. Headphones will pulse green while the battery is charging. The LED will turn solid green when the battery is charged.
The included Y-USB cable can be used to charge both ear buds at once. This cable CANNOT be used for setup.
The STRIVA CAP will only display the pulsing/solid green LED when plugged into and then ejected from a PC USB port. The STRIVA CAP LED is always teal when plugged into the AC Adapter.
The STRIVA CAP does NOT charge when plugged into an audio device to stream music. The STRIVA CAP cannot charge and stream music simultaneously.
All STRIVA devices will automatically power off after three minutes of inactivity.
Use the capacitive (touch) strip on your STRIVA Devices to adjust volume. This strip is indicated by a raised ridge on the device. Pairs of devices, such as the STRIVA TAPs will sync their volume- you only need to adjust the volume on one device.
Adjust the volume on the media device the STRIVA CAP is connected to. If your media device has an auto-volume limiting feature be sure to turn this off
For devices that have one volume control such as an MP3 player:
The volume should be set around 90% of maximum volume for best sound. Turning up the volume to 100% may cause distortion.
For other media devices with multiple volume controls such as a laptop computer:
These devices have a system volume control and sometimes a software volume control, such as iTunes adjust to 90% of maximum volume. Turning up the volume to 100% may cause distortion. Set the secondary software volume slider to a comfortable listening level.
A forced reset can be used to “reboot” a device that is stuck.
For STRIVA CAP:
If your STRIVA Device is still not responding, try the reset procedure a second time. Please contact technical support for additional assistance.
Each STRIVA Device features a multi-color status LED light which can display relevant information using different colors and patterns.
